Hamburg is the official home of Germany’s greatest number
of millionaires. It owes a large part of its growth, and subsequent
wealth, to its strategic position on three rivers, which now give
the city the honour of having six times more bridges than Venice.
Add to this its quaint canals, vast urban green spaces and beautiful
architecture, and Hamburg comes off as great place to learn the
language and immerse yourself in the culture - and there's certainly
lots of that.
Having survived two world wars and a devastating fire in the
19th century, Hamburgers are justifiably proud of their city,
and today you'll see a friendly mix of students, workers and foreigners
going about their daily lives and enjoying the huge variety of
entertainment and eating out by night. |
