Anyone arriving by train into Orvieto will see this medieval
town sat high on a cliff in the middle of stunning Umbrian landscape
- the green heart of Italy, or il cuore verde dell’Italia,
as it’s known. And with one glance at the lavish Gothic
cathedral, one sip of delicious Orvieto Classico, even one foot
in the mysterious underground caverns, you'll see why this is
one of Italy's most precious treasures.
The town isn't big, but down cobbled streets, through crumbling
stone arches and under pretty painted window boxes you'll find
yourself haggling in markets, admiring hand-made ceramics, or
simply soaking up the sun from a traditional café terrace.
