Fresh powder skiing one day, wine tasting another, sunbathing
on a beach the next…welcome to life in Chile's vibrant capital,
Santiago! With its stunning setting right next to the magnificent
backdrop of the Andes, Santiago is modern and cosmopolitan. It
consists of skyscrapers, universities, theatres, art galleries
and more, with beautifully kept gardens and squares dotted about
in between. The culture shock typically experienced in other Latin
American countries comes in a much reduced form here: colonial,
Latin and European influences are all present in their own way,
yet coming together as an attractive, subtle blend quite unique
to South America.
Santiago is a great place for a school group because of the
low level of culture shock and the ease of getting around on the
modern efficient subway system. There are also plenty of varied
activities in and around the capital including museums and art
galleries, getting to know the capital’s well kept and extensive
parks, rafting and trekking in Cajon de Maipo, visiting a winery,
skiing and snowboarding or a trip to the beach only 90 minutes
away.
