Granada is a city of real contrasts. With its stunning location at the foot of the Sierra
Nevada - snow-covered for much of the year - you can quickly forget it's only an hour the other
way to the glistening Mediterranean. Home to the fascinating Alhambra - this magnificent
Muslim palace sitting high above Granada is the stuff of picture postcards – with a splash
of typically Andalucian white on the hillside opposite the former Arab quarter of the Albayzín,
a maze of steep, narrow alleys. Meanwhile, the city centre is all colour, activity and
flamenco ruffle.
Granada is a wonderful place for a school trip; it is a city of universal historical and
religious importance, thanks to its archaeological remains, so you can run a cross curricular
trip with your humanities department. The city centre is lively and safe and Malaga airport is
close by meaning it’s easy to get there too.
