  :: The School
School Trips Les Ciernes
The language programmes are designed to help address individual needs. Students can choose to study English, French or German and a school group can contain children studying each language. Pupils complete a level test before and on arrival. Class sizes vary from four to ten. The small size of the groups ensures that students feel more comfortable, get more individual attention, progress more quickly and gain confidence in all aspects of their work. Please note that classes are in open groups with children from other schools.

Staff give well prepared, intensive but interesting and lively lessons in order to stimulate students into taking an active part in the learning process. Teachers show the students how the language works outside of the classroom environment and use all available mediums – video, internet, games, role play, music, theatre etc. to develop enthusiasm and participation in the lessons. All staff are police checked.

The ski programme is truly top class. Fully qualified instructors work with their groups throughout the entire ski day ensuring safety, progress and lots of fun on the slopes. Small ski groups (maximum 9 students per group) ensure lots of individual attention for everyone. There are also extra instructors on the slopes each day to help with any students who are finding it more difficult by giving them some individual tuition. All instructors are first aid qualified and a rigorous and proven accident procedure is in place with staff assigned specifically to this task s every day.

  :: House Teams
School Trips Les Ciernes - House Team
The school runs house teams for students. In recent years this has been made popular by the Harry Potter books and movies. The House Team system is invaluable to the success of our summer programme. Each week students are assigned to teams so that each team has an equal number of boys and girls and an equal number of age ranges. Up to 4 members of staff are assigned to each. Being in a team immediately creates a common bond for the students in that team and new friendships form.

The Teams help all students settle in to life at the camp quickly and comfortably. Throughout the week each student can win points for their team by participating in the various activities and each week the wining Team receives a prize at the weekly presentation ceremony.

This program has a very high ratio of staff to students. At maximum capacity there would be 1 staff member for every 5 students. Staff are young but experienced in their field, whether it is skiing, language teaching or activities, dynamic and responsible, energetic and enthusiastic and devoted to working with young people. All staff follow a rigorous training programme before commencing their work at the camp..
