Anyone arriving by train into
Orvieto will see this medieval town
sat high on a cliff in the middle
of stunning Umbrian landscape - the
green heart of Italy, or il cuore
verde dellItalia, as its
known. And with one glance at the
lavish Gothic cathedral, one sip of
delicious Orvieto Classico, even one
foot in the mysterious underground caverns, you'll
see why this is one of Italy's most precious treasures.
The town isn't big, but down cobbled streets,
through crumbling stone arches and under pretty
painted window boxes you'll find yourself haggling
in markets, admiring hand-made ceramics, or simply
soaking up the sun from a traditional café
terrace.
The School
The school is located just 30m from
the Cathedral in a wonderful 16th
century monastery, built by the famous
Orvieto architect Ippolito Scalza.
The monastery boasts a beautiful garden
where students can attend lessons
or simply relax, read and soak up
the Umbrian sun, and
next to the garden there are tennis courts, table
tennis and five-a-side football grounds. Within
the monastery the school has set up a small library,
TV and video, and internet point for students'
use. All teachers are university graduates and
specialized in teaching Italian as a second language.
A broad programme on diverse aspects of Italian
culture is also on offer to ensure a fun and varied
immersion in Italian!

Feedback
I particularly appreciated the
fact that the school uses authentic
dialogues for oral comprehension and
that we had classes "fuori aula",
or outdoors. I would like to take
home with me the warm breeze, the
people, the eating ice cream
at the Cathedral, the town and
lastly the teacher, so I could continue
to learn Italian! Karen Miller
